Bulldogs Beat Newburyport, 5-2

The Canton Bulldogs took the ice Monday in Newburyport to take on a physical Clippers team. These teams have a lot of history between each other and when they face off the game is always a dog fight. Right from the start of this game bodies were flying, both sides suffered multiple penalties throughout the contest. Canton’s Sean Connolly scored his first career varsity goal to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Canton kept the momentum in the 2nd period after John Hagan netted a shot past the goalie. Newburyport was slowly watching the game slip away until they jumped on a loose puck out front in the closing minutes of the second period. The Clippers were getting outworked by the Bulldogs but still had a chance when they cut the lead in half. The score was 2-1 by the end of the second. Less than a minute into the third period Hagan got his second of the game and Canton had Newburyport right where they wanted them. The game was far from over because after the third goal the Bulldogs couldn’t stay out of the penalty box and were giving Newburyport another chance at winning. Newburyport found the back of the net for the second time on a 5-3 penalty narrowing the Canton lead to one. The Bulldogs shifted the goal margin for good after Chris Lavoie scored on a shorthanded breakaway goal after receiving a perfect headman pass from Hagan for his 3rd point of the night. TJ McCabe earned his second goal of the season to complete the 5-2 victory with an empty net tally. Canton improves to 9-0-2 on the season with the win.
